Expungement & Exoneration for State-Level Cannabis Convictions
Rationale:
Individuals with prior low-level cannabis convictions face barriers to employment, housing, and education. These penalties do not align with evolving public policy or public opinion. It's time Georgia takes the crucial step from prison state to prosperity.
Legislative Plan:
Establish a streamlined statewide process for automatic expungement of non-violent, possession-related cannabis offenses.
Create an exoneration review program for individuals affected by past enforcement policies.
Coordinate with courts and law-enforcement agencies to ensure accurate, timely clearing of records.
Why It Matters:
Expungement policies promote fairness, improve economic mobility, and allow Georgians to fully participate in society without outdated records holding them back.
